2022 – Die Lust an der Zeichnung, Hospitalhof Stuttgart

group show:

Die Lust an der Zeichnung
Hospitalhof Stuttgart

with a lecture performance by Patrizia Bach: Past, in Each of its Moments be Citable, taking Istanbul as an example

The group exhibition brings together ten positions in contemporary drawing from Germany, highlighting the diversity of the medium. In the rooms of the Hospitalhof, visitors encounter not only works on paper, as one might primarily expect, but also works on wood or asphalt, up to large-scale installations in which the line remains central.

What unites these diverse positions beyond their materiality? One answer can be found in Jean-Luc Nancy and his eponymous book, The Pleasure of Drawing (2011). This pleasure in drawing can be experienced throughout the exhibition. As Nancy writes, drawing is “the birth of form.” The thoughts of the French philosopher, who passed away in 2021, inspire engagement with the works on display.

The idea for the exhibition emerged from a sheer love of drawing. Each member of the Hospitalhof Stuttgart’s art advisory board proposed a position in drawing. In the exhibition space, these positions now enter into dialogue with one another, revealing the many forms that drawing can take.
